W’s Community Service Award, sponsored by Sedgwick County Zoo, is presented to a W member who is distinguished by their record of service to their community. They have engaged in continuing efforts to preserve and promote Wichita through their time, service, and talents.

Who is the person you would most like to go to lunch with and why?

I wish I chould have had lunch with civil rights and human rights actvist Ella Josephine Baker. She worked behind the scenes and started many of the most integral organizations to help make the necessary moves for civil rights. She advised some of the worlds most influential leaders. I would love to hear her stories, testimonies, and be able to absorb her advice and wisdom.

Ruth Nutting, Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas School of Medicine and Director of Behavioral Health at the Ascension Via Christi Family Medicine Residency

What is the most recent book you’ve read? What did you like/learn from it?

“Wealth Beyond Riches”, a memoir written by my mother of her childhood days in Central Maine. The memories she shares depict adventures, challenges, and tragedies growing up as one of ten children. These stories encourage readers to utilize their talents and abilities to embrace their inner God given strengths.

Daniel White, Senior Organizational Development Consultant at AGH

“Get a Grip” – it’s the follow up to “Traction”, which boils down a lot of great business advice to help organizations do three things: gain a clear vision for the future, get traction in implementation, and develop a healthy team.
